According to internal communications cited by several employees, Google plans to integrate a third-party platform called Nayya, which uses artificial intelligence to suggest personalized medical coverage and insurance options. The controversy stems from claims that workers who refuse to enroll through the tool may risk losing eligibility for certain health benefits.
Employee Concerns Over Data Privacy
The policy has led to a wave of employee dissatisfaction, with many voicing privacy and ethical concerns. Workers have described the system as “coercive,” suggesting that linking healthcare access to participation in an external AI tool leaves little room for genuine consent.

Amid growing backlash, Google clarified that employees will not lose their healthcare coverage if they choose not to use Nayya. The company’s spokesperson, Courtenay Mencini, said the policy had been misunderstood and that the intent was to help employees make better benefits decisions, not to restrict access.
Mencini emphasized that the platform only receives basic demographic details—such as age, location, and employment information—unless the user voluntarily provides more data. She also reaffirmed that the company remains compliant with all U.S. privacy and health-data protection laws, including HIPAA.

Insiders, however, argue that Google’s internal communication around the rollout was poorly handled. Some HR materials reportedly included confusing language that made employees believe enrollment in Nayya was mandatory.
